Petr Slavík - Wildlife Photographer

 

Petr Slavík belongs among those who were born with the love for wilderness. Bummels through the remote parts of the world like the Ands of Chile or the Bolivian rainforest flew into the desire to catch the last surviving pieces of the wildlife through the lense of a camera. The "vagrancy" that is how Petr Slavík calls his beginnings as a traveller which transformed into the precisely organized and demanding expeditions to animals on the brink of extention.

Returns to mountain gorillas in Uganda, unsuccessful journey with Himalayan shepherds to snowleopard or the desperate searching for the "grey spirit of the jungle" in the green jungle of Borneo. "I have nothing again", this is what he is saying when he comes back and those who know him kow it is a lie.

Petr´s images brought from his expeditions have been presented to public in several exhibitions. Events like "Out of Africa", "The Lost World" or the charity evening "In the Tropics of Three Continents" do not present only the art of the author. The proceeds from the auction entering his exhibitions support the breeding of rare animal species.

Although Petr´s main goal is wildlife photography he is not avoiding other themes. In one of his African jouneys emerged the idea of a humanitarian project "Child´s World Without Borders".In the Nostic Palace of Prague his photographic exhibition of the same name supported the stay of social workers in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.

."Life is a path and we are pilgrims searching for beauty and adventure", this is what Petr is saying about his trips to the real wild, but he also cares about the animals living in captivity.

He is in close collaboration with the Zoo of Ústí nad Labem in the Czech Republic. Petr Slavík is the author of the publication "Wild Hearts" presenting the inhabitants of the Zoo.
To him zoological gardens are institutions serving to repair human mistakes. "When the man stops disturbing the living space of other creatures there won´t be any bars necessary", says Petr and disappears in one of other places of the wild planet. His is living according to this motto:"Walk without trampling".
