Under the Arctic Sun - Spitsbergen
Waste, inhospitable and colorless. That is how I imagined the Arctic before my first expedition beyond the Arctic Circle. But it surprised me. By its colors, variety of life a rough beauty. Tiny violet blossoms among stones in the tundra. Reindeer pack on the edge of a valley with an iceberg in the background. Walrus cub carefully observed by his mother just tens of centimeters from my camera. Polar bear with bloody snout feasting on his fresh catch. Cliffs with thousands of nesting birds. The sea covered with ice floes which were colored by the low light in pink. For a moment attractively sunny, but in a while reserved and hidden in the fog. That is how the Arctic showed up to me during my cruise around the Svalbard. Although I had to cope with shoulder inflammation when to put on my clothes was a pure sufferance, the virgin beauty of the artic nature helped me to overcome even my health troubles. Thanks to the highly professional crew on the Plancius boat and the friendly attitude of guides from the Oceanwide Expedition society I rank this expedition among one of the most beautiful in my wildlife pilgrimage.
My expedition could happen thanks to the collaboration with travel agency Periscope Skandinávie and the Oceanwide Expedition.
